Venus in 12th House indicates Refined Aesthetic Sensitivity
12th house is the subconscious. It is like the bottom of the ocean. Items within it can feel out of reach, like when we drop something into a body of water. 12th house is ruled by Neptune.
Venus is your sensuality. It is what you want, desire, long for.
(And it is important to note that it is *your* sensual energy. It doesn't represent an external person, or how you are loved and wanted. it is what *you* love and want.)
This can mean you feel like what you want is out of reach.
Many astrologers suggest this means people with Venus in the 12th suffer unrequited love, or secret love affairs. Secret because they have to go to great lengths to go to a deep and hidden place to be with those they love.
But Venus isn't just about love. It defines what you want from life. Sometimes people with Venus in the 12th don’t know what they want, or feel they can never get what they truly want.
In truth, the 12th house is like a blind spot. Those things are in our reach, other people can see them in our reach. We just can’t see it properly, unless we move to a different position.
That position is opposite, in the 6th house. The 6th house is the house of health and service. It is about self-care and care of others. Usually, being of service to others gives someone with a Venus in the 12th (or someone with any planets in the 12th) a sudden realization of who and/or what they want.
Twelfth House Venus Empowered – Refined Aesthetic Sensitivity
A 12th house Venus can transform through embracing her need for solitude at times. You need a space where you can feel calm and at ease, to develop greater emotional awareness. Allowing this space to recharge yourself can have positive impact on your relationships.
Art is another empowered 12th house Venus expression. Artists of all kinds perceive beauty (color, sound or feelings) differently from others. Their refined imagination allows them to bring their inspiration to life. See below for some examples of empowered Venus in twelfth house:
- Actress Meryl Streep has Venus in 12th house. She has received numerous awards for her ability to create (or get inside) various characters.
- Composer George Gershwin had his Venus in 12th house.
- Mathematician John Nash had 4 planets in 12th house including Venus. His field of abstract mathematics certainly required refined imagination.
A love of music, or some other form of art. Relationships with others that are of a highly spiritual nature are likely. An appreciation of art and culture, and spirituality itself. Able to deeply love another person. Falling deeply in love with another more than once in your lifetime (if you are lucky :-)
You may have a secret admirer, or admire someone else secretly. The ability to play a musical instrument, or being proficient at some other form of art. Sympathy and compassion for other people. A gentle side to your nature, and a love (and understanding) of animals. An appreciation of nature, beautiful open spaces, and beautiful sunrises and sunsets. A need for regular solitude, peace and quiet.
Venus in Scorpio depends on the aspects.
In itself, it is obviously a very, very passionate placement which disposes toward intense relationships. If the Sun or Ascendant are also in Scorpio, or Venus lacks strong aspects and is therefore a “loose cannon”, this feature of the placement will be stronger: and in the latter case, perhaps uncontrollable. If it becomes “uncontrollable”, the lack of control will manifest in one of two ways: an intense, passionate atttachment to love objects with no critical level or self-restraint, and no sense on the part of the individual that they can even potentially control their emotions in this area, or an intense inner emotional state that constantly burdens the self and for which it is really difficult to find any adequate “objective correlative" or expression.
More negatively, of course, these people may be compulsively jealous and possessive, or even vindictive and vengeful when they sense that their powerful feelings are being slighted. It is in general rather difficult for Venus in Scorpio to come second in the life of anyone they feel strongly about - though, of course, they may precisely have to learn how to do this. In general, a person with this placement who shows detachment is extremely elevated.
Apart from being passionate, Venus in Scorpio is obviously deeply sexual. Venus is in its detriment in Scorpio because Scorpio is the opposite sign to Taurus which Venus rules. But the alignment with Taurus adds sensuality to Venus. Natives with this placement like making love; they enjoy the act of making love. This is noticeably stronger than in natives who lack the placement, especially in the case of women. Venus in Scorpio, in any case, tends to fascinate the native with the female reproductive system, whether subjectively or projectively. If Venus is retrograde at birth, however, this changes in one of two ways: either the native becomes incredibly interested in some form of sexuality that is not mainstream for his/her environment, - often involving lack of contact, since the Taurus alignment works against itself -, or there is something monastic about the person: their sexuality can go on hold for years at a time. This second possibility is more likely with spritually evolved natives, but of course the two are far from mutually exclusive.
In the second case, when young, the person may feel this as an obstacle and a source of frustration: but later on, it might be a deliberate choice. These natives do, indeed, come with something a little bit monastic trailing about them.
There are, however, few placements apart from some that involve the Moon which are so sensitive to aspects. If Venus has supportive aspects - particularly trines - this placement can feel entirely regenerative for self and others. Particularly trines from Mars or Pluto can be extremely powerful in this case. Anyone with Pluto trine Venus in Scorpio is going to be pretty old at this point; but the next best is a sextile, which some people have from when Pluto was in Virgo back in the sixties and early seventies, and which people will be being born with now that Pluto is in Capricorn.
However, stress aspects, particularly from Saturn or the Moon, will soon turn Venus in Scorpio into a private hell, a suffocating little prison or a sauna that is too hot. The person will feel oppressed by desires and emotions that have no positive outlet and will feel as if circumstances retard their emotional development. Even - or perhaps especially - then, the native can still come to a deep emotional wisdom in his/her years of maturity. Pluto square Venus in Scorpio will produce natives who lose love or loved ones in tragic circumstances, whereas the semi-square with Pluto is classic for unrequited love.
It is important to note that many people - particularly Scorpios - will have been born with Venus conjunct Pluto during the eighties (and early nineties) of the last century. These people are extremely passionate and intense in relationships and loathe emotional mediocrity. They tend to have an exalted idealism about love because their generation has an advanced consciousness. They will, however, experience many ruptures, changes and even revolutions in their emotional lives. Significant others need to treat these individuals with caution and respect; there will be few second chances with them. The “purpose” of this placement this time round was to create a more exalted consciousness of love than had been generally present in the generation born in the sixties and seventies.
If it is conjunct the Sun or conjunct fixed stars in the first 15 degrees or so of Scorpio, the placement - even if challengingly aspected - can give a profound sense of harmony and artistic beauty. If also subjected to challenging aspects from “round the clock”, this could even signify mastery of form in some art, or mastery of grammar for aesthetic writers. Mercury or the quintile series (or preferably both) would have to be strong in the chart in some way for the placement to manifest on this exalted level. If it does, then other negative features will be much attenuated or even altogether transformed. This will work particularly well for retrograde Venus, because the native will introspect and get it.
In the chart of a man whose Mercury is less strong, these same aspects could produce an involvement with powerful, passionate women who are artistically inclined. The problem is that they will call the shots - i.e., he will feel dominated. In a woman, Venus in Scorpio will produce a strong, very sexualized expression of her femininity, which may seem overbearing to some males, or a whirlpool to other females.
Putting it in the Twelfth House helps in this connection. Venus in the Twelfth predisposes to spiritual love and can give a more lovely Platonic form to the Scorpio passional impulses. Venus in the Twelfth tends to stay behind the scenes to some extent, and is much less vain than Venus in the First. There is a Pisces overlay which adds a touch of love and makes the native more inclined to fall in love instead of falling into sex. It will make a woman loving and passionate, but could also make her excessively liable to sacrifice herself for the loved one, due to the strength of her passion. There is also a predisposition to clandestine love affairs, particularly as life wears on.
Venus in Scorpio in the Twelfth is much more artistically sensitized than a normal Scorpio Venus placement, and is very susceptible to beauty. However, the beauty it looks for in another is much more likely to be inward than outward (as distinct from Venus in the First, which is all about appearances). For example, a man with Venus in the Twelfth is much more likely to look for a woman with beautiful qualities of personality than beautiful physical qualities, without being at all averse to the second: and a woman with Venus in the Twelfth wants to be admired for her qualities.
Venus in Scorpio in the Twelfth is, of course, profoundly reticent and secretive about its emotions: and if Venus is also retrograde, will probably have some trouble expressing them at all outside poetry. These natives also soak up emotional influences from their environment without meaning to, and may be emotionally psychic about others. Their originality is to do with content rather than form, unless Uranus is involved.
They are also much sought after by others as emotional counsellors, and may even end up working as psychiatrists, psychologists or - if they are religious - in some kind of spiritual counselling capacity.
